About

Cáitlin Heavey is Scotland’s most experienced pregnancy yoga teacher & also works as a doula in Edinburgh.

Cáitlin qualified as a chartered physiotherapist in Dublin in 1982 and worked in busy teaching hospitals in Dublin, London and Edinburgh.

After attending a friend’s home waterbirth, Cáitlin was inspired to train to become an active birth teacher in 1994. The Active Birth Centre was the first pregnancy and postnatal yoga teachers training course in the UK. Cáitlin later extended her training with Yogabirth, accredited by the Royal College of Midwives. She completed her general yoga teachers training in 2010 with the British Wheel of Yoga.

Her first doula experience was in Edinburgh in 1999 and she has since supported hundreds of parents both in hospital and at home. She left her NHS career in physiotherapy to start her own business, Elementalbirth, which included a birth pool hire company.

Cáitlin was one of the founding directors of Mulberry House, a successful Wellbeing centre in Edinburgh.

After a couple of ‘gap years’ starting a bread making school in Tuscany, Cáitlin returned to Yogabirth in 2020.

Cáitlin is a proud mother of two sons, one of whom designed her website and branding.

“Alexander was born in the height of lockdown - and not only during my pregnancy but also my birth - I felt empowered, calm and in control. This was undoubtedly due to your shared knowledge, advice and kindness. Without you, I honestly believe I wouldn’t have had that same positive experience.”
