<image:title>Active Birth Workshop - essential skills for brth partners</image:title>
<image:caption>Active birth means being an active participant in your own birth experience; to be free to move and behave as you wish, to make choices that align with your beliefs even if those caring for you disagree and to be at the centre of your own story. During her many years of doula service, Cáitlin has observed and experienced what a woman needs from her partner’ during labour. ‘Going with the flow’ sounds like an open attitude to a natural life experience but often leaves women and their partners vulnerable to the flow of a busy labour ward or a poorly designed NHS policy. Many say they simply don’t know what questions to ask of their care providers, how to say no to advice that doesn’t feel right or goes against their wishes, how to cope with the unexpected during labour and how to make a difference. Cáitlin developed this workshop after years of seeing first hand how simple and practical techniques can truly make a difference to your labour experience. You will discover what labour and birthing positions feel like and what might work for you. You will learn ways of moving that can help baby’s journey through your pelvis. You will learn effective breathing techniques to help you cope during the working and resting parts of labour. You will learn how resting well during labour is key to coping well. you can explore how birth affirmations can support you to focus without fear. Your birth partner will learn how your body is supposed to behave naturally and instinctively during labour and how they might support that process. They will learn how to support you emotionally. how to massage and use pressure effectively. how gravity helps you and your baby. how to keep you comfortable & coping from TENS machines to birth pools.</image:caption>

<image:title>doula</image:title>
<image:caption>Since my very first doula job in 1999, I can hand on heart tell you that no two births have been the same. My longest was 52 hours and my shortest 2! Naturally the skills required were different but at the centre of each birth story is my profound belief that all mamas know how to birth their babies safely and my role is to trust in that. Labour can be wild and is often unpredictable. It can at times feel overwhelming and so to have someone with you as well as a partner who knows your wishes, your birth beliefs and can advocate for you, can make all the difference. The facts around having a birth doula are well known: significantly reducing the chances of interventions like pain relieving drugs, assisted birth including caesarean, as well as shortening labour and reducing negative feelings around birth. The key to this is continuous, knowledgable and compassionate support. It does seem to matter that this support person is not a health professional and not part of your social network. Some women want lots of reassurance, massage, homeopathy/aromatherapy and hypnosis techniques as well as suggestions around positioning and breathing, whilst others just need to know that I’m sitting quietly in the corner. Often partners are reluctant to hire a doula, concerned that I will ‘get in the way’ or ‘take their place’ when in fact the opposite is often true; having a doula present can allow you more intimacy as fear and anxiety is reduced. I may also be called upon to give another perspective when, for example, decisions are to be made about intervention. I have a deep respect for midwifery skills and have experienced working with wonderful midwives and doctors over the years. My role as your doula is to listen, watch and trust in the birth process and to honour your role in the centre of your own story. Whether you chose to birth your baby at home or in hospital, I will be delighted to be part of your dream birth team. FAQ’s here</image:caption>

<image:title>Yogabirth - pregnancy yoga</image:title>
<image:caption>The yoga Each class includes simple, flowing movements, combined with breathing and relaxation techniques. This nourishing style of pregnancy yoga is suitable for everyone, from complete beginners to those with more experience. The postures are specially adapted to suit your changing body, making them safe and effective. You will also learn different breathing styles as well as affirmations and hypno-birthing techniques, so that you can discover what feels good to you. Many of the yoga postures we practice are similar to positions you will naturally use in labour. Evidence shows that these upright and forward leaning positions can make labour smoother and less painful. Becoming familiar with these positions during pregnancy can give you the confidence and strength to use them during your labour. The chat Each class allows time for questions and to share information on any pregnancy/birth/parent hood related topic from pregnancy nutrition to labour pain relief to baby equipment! If it’s your first pregnancy then you will also have the invaluable tips, advice and support of those who are already mothers. New mamas regularly return to class to share their birth stories and introduce their babies. By listening to these real experiences, the wisdom and questions that are shared, you can begin to form your own ideas around the birth you want.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Cáitlin Heavey has taught pregnancy yoga classes and active birth preparation courses, for almost 30 years. She was one of Scotland’s first teachers delivering this style of highly specialised yoga to pregnant women. Cáitlin has also been present as doula for hundreds of mothers and honoured to witness the births of their babies. Cáitlin’s classes have at their heart, a belief that pregnancy, birth and motherhood are normal and natural events in a woman’s life. Practicing yoga during this time seems like a natural fit for many, as we learn to navigate the huge changes, physical and emotional, that occur during pregnancy: the need to move and stretch, the desire to become quieter & calmer, to find new ways to breathe and to learn to relax more deeply. Cáitlin Heavey Yogabirth is more than just a yoga class; it’s about making strong, capable mothers who trust their inner wisdom and through the gentle power of yoga, learn to know their inner strength.</image:caption>
